Bengaluru Sessions Court Allows In-Principle Approval for Darshan’s Jail Interview While Dismissing Plea on Evidence Lapses; Bail Cancellation Hearing Adjourned to April 2
Bengaluru: In a significant development in the high-profile Renukaswamy murder case, the 57th Sessions Court on Thursday granted in-principle approval for the interview of actor Darshan, the prime accused, inside the jail premises. However, the court clarified that the final decision rests solely with the jail superintendent, granting full discretionary powers in accordance with prison regulations.
Court Leaves Final Call to Jail Authorities
According to established jail manual provisions, interviews with inmates are permitted only if the jail superintendent evaluates and approves the request. The court emphasised that if the superintendent withholds consent, the interview will not be allowed under any circumstances. This effectively places the ultimate authority regarding Darshan’s jail interview in the hands of prison officials.
Plea on Evidence Seizure Dismissed with Fine
In another key ruling, the court dismissed a petition that alleged procedural lapses in the seizure of mobile phones from the accused in the Renukaswamy murder case. The plea, filed in connection with the Kamakshipalya police station, claimed that the mobile device was not properly recovered and that the evidence had been taken into custody elsewhere.
Rejecting these allegations, the court observed that the claims lacked merit and credibility. Upholding the importance of proper evidence handling, the court imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the petitioner, reinforcing its stance against unsubstantiated claims.
“The allegations in the petition have no merit,” the court noted, while dismissing the plea and penalizing the petitioner.
Bail Cancellation Hearing Adjourned
Meanwhile, proceedings related to the bail of the accused also saw a delay. The High Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing on a petition filed by the Kamakshipalya police seeking cancellation of bail granted to five accused in the case.
The police had approached the High Court requesting cancellation of bail granted to Pawan, Vinay, Dhanraj, Raghavendra, and Nandish. After preliminary consideration, the court decided to postpone the hearing to April 2, extending the legal uncertainty surrounding the accused.
Case Continues to Draw Public Attention
The Renukaswamy murder case continues to remain under intense public and legal scrutiny, with each court proceeding shaping the trajectory of the investigation and trial. The conditional approval of Darshan’s interview and the dismissal of procedural allegations mark crucial developments in the ongoing case.
