Beed: The charred remains of a 60-year-old man were recovered from a sugarcane field in Maharashtra’s Beed district, with police suspecting the death to be a case of suicide, officials said on Sunday.
According to preliminary information shared with the media, the burnt body was found in Mamdapur village of Ambajogai tehsil, triggering an immediate police response and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Vishwanath Panchal (60), police confirmed.
Body Discovered After Fire Breaks Out in Field
Police officials stated that the shocking discovery came to light in the early hours of Saturday, when a fire broke out in the sugarcane field located in Mamdapur village.
A farm worker who noticed the blaze quickly alerted the landowner, following which the matter was reported to the authorities. When locals and officials inspected the site, they discovered the charred remains of Vishwanath Panchal inside the field.
“The body was found after a fire broke out in the agricultural field. Preliminary findings indicate suicide, but the exact cause will be confirmed after further investigation,” a police official said.
Police Begin Investigation
Law enforcement teams from the Ambajogai region reached the scene soon after receiving information about the incident. The body was sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Officials added that a detailed probe is currently underway, and investigators are collecting evidence from the site while also speaking to villagers and relatives of the deceased.
Authorities have not ruled out any possibility and stated that forensic and post-mortem reports will play a crucial role in establishing the exact sequence of events.
Rural Fire Incident Raises Concerns
The discovery has raised concerns among residents in the region, as accidental field fires and unexplained deaths in rural agricultural areas often pose challenges for investigators due to limited surveillance and remote locations.
Police officials have assured that all angles are being examined before arriving at a final conclusion regarding the cause of death.
