Chariot reportedly lost control due to heavy crowd during Rathotsava in Aragundagi village; victim Nagamma, remains in serious condition

Kalaburagi: A tragic accident occurred during the Sharanabasaveshwara Fair in Aragundagi, where a woman was seriously injured after being run over by a temple chariot.

The victim, identified as Nagamma, reportedly lost both her legs after she got caught under the wheels of the chariot during the Sharanabasaveshwara Rathotsava on March 8.

Chariot Lost Control Amid Large Crowd

According to reports, the incident took place at around 6 pm on Sunday when devotees gathered in large numbers to participate in the chariot procession held as part of the annual fair in Yadrami taluk.

Villagers had gathered enthusiastically to pull the ceremonial chariot when it allegedly went out of control due to the heavy crowd and moved toward an area where people were standing.

Woman Trapped Under Chariot Wheel

Nagamma, a resident of Aragundagi village, was reportedly standing close to the chariot and could not move away in time when it suddenly changed direction.

She became trapped under the wheel of the chariot, which ran over her legs, causing severe injuries and leading to the amputation of both limbs.

People present at the spot quickly rushed to rescue her and immediately shifted her to a nearby hospital.

Condition Critical, Under Medical Care

Doctors at the hospital said Nagamma remains in serious condition and is currently under close medical supervision.

The village of Aragundagi holds special religious significance as it is considered the birthplace of Sharanabasaveshwara, and the annual fair attracts a large number of devotees every year.

Authorities are expected to review safety arrangements for the festival following the tragic incident.
