Police uncover illegal mephedrone manufacturing unit in Hunsur; 48 kg of drugs and raw materials seized near a residential area
Mysuru: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, police in Mysuru have seized synthetic drugs worth Rs 12 crore and arrested two accused in a high-intensity operation conducted in Hunsur taluk.
The raid, carried out in Dasanapura village under Hunsur Rural Police Station limits, exposed a clandestine drug manufacturing and storage unit, raising serious concerns about the spread of narcotics in semi-urban regions.
Illegal Drug Unit Operating Near Residential Area
According to Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi, the accused identified as Mohammed Irfan from Siddiqui Mohalla in Mysuru and another Mohammed Irfan from Hunsur were allegedly involved in manufacturing and distributing synthetic drugs.
Investigations revealed that the illegal activity was being conducted in an isolated house near a hospital in Dasanapura village, while additional raw materials were stored in a shed located in Rehmat Mohalla, Hunsur town.
Massive Seizure of Mephedrone and Raw Materials
During the operation, police recovered 7.35 kg of mephedrone (a synthetic drug) along with 41 kg of precursor chemicals, totalling 48 kg of narcotic substances.
Officials confirmed that the seized drugs are valued at approximately Rs12 crore in the illegal market, indicating a well-organised drug network operating in the region.
Police Action and Case Registration
Both accused have been taken into custody, and a case has been registered at the Hunsur Rural Police Station. Authorities are now probing the supply chain, distribution network, and possible interstate links connected to the racket.

This incident highlights the growing menace of synthetic drugs in Karnataka, with traffickers increasingly setting up hidden labs in less monitored areas. Police officials have assured intensified surveillance and stricter enforcement to curb such illegal activities.
