Fuel supply disruptions trigger LPG crisis, forcing hospitals to rely on small cylinders and alternative systems for Panchakarma treatments

Gadag: The ongoing tensions in the Middle East are now having a direct impact on India’s healthcare system, with fuel supply disruptions reaching ground level. In a worrying development, the Government Ayush Hospital in Gadag district is facing a severe shortage of commercial gas cylinders, affecting critical treatment processes.

The shortage has raised concerns about the ripple effects of global conflicts on local healthcare infrastructure, especially in government-run facilities.

Shortage of Commercial Cylinders Disrupts Therapy
Gas cylinders play a crucial role in Panchakarma treatments, particularly for heating medicinal oils and generating steam therapy. However, due to the non-availability of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders, hospital operations have been forced to adapt.

Authorities confirmed that the hospital is currently managing with 5 kg cylinders as a temporary measure, which is proving insufficient for regular patient load.

Temporary Shift to Smaller Cylinders Raises Operational Challenges
The hospital, which treats 10 to 20 patients daily suffering from ailments such as paralysis, knee pain, and back pain, is struggling to maintain efficiency.

The shortage has directly impacted steam-based therapies and food preparation systems, creating operational hurdles for both patients and staff.

“We are continuing treatments without disruption, but the shortage is creating practical challenges,” hospital doctors stated.

Plan to Introduce Electric Alternatives
In response to the ongoing crisis, hospital authorities have initiated plans to switch to electronic stoves and cookers as an alternative to LPG-dependent systems.

This move is expected to partially ease the pressure, though concerns remain over the sustainability and effectiveness of such measures in the long term.

Global Conflict, Local Impact
The situation in Gadag highlights how international geopolitical tensions can directly affect essential services at the grassroots level.

With fuel supply chains disrupted, sectors like healthcare are now facing unexpected operational crises, prompting calls for better contingency planning and resource management.
