Hundreds from the Shia community march from Fort Mosque to Siddalingaiah Circle, condemn US and Israeli actions
Doddaballapur: Tensions reverberated in Doddaballapur on Sunday night as members of the Shia Muslim community staged a large candlelight vigil protesting the reported assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The protest witnessed the participation of hundreds of people, including women, children, and elderly residents, who expressed anger over the alleged role of the United States and Israel.
The procession commenced around 8 pm from the historic Fort Mosque located on Fort Road and culminated at Siddalingaiah Circle. Participants carried candles, placards, and photographs condemning the killing and raising slogans denouncing US and Israeli policies.
The demonstration remained largely peaceful but emotionally charged, with protestors demanding global accountability and justice.
Fort Mosque Holds Deep Religious Significance
The Fort Mosque, regarded as one of the most prominent religious centres of the Shia community in the region, attracts thousands of devotees annually, particularly during Muharram. Pilgrims from states such as Andhra Pradesh and Telangana regularly visit the mosque to offer special prayers, underlining its religious and cultural importance.
Community leaders stated that the vigil was organised to express solidarity with Shia Muslims worldwide and to register dissent against what they termed unjust international aggression.
Sharp Reactions From Youth Participants
Speaking to local media during the protest, a young participant, Abbas, voiced strong criticism of the United States.
“Today, the United States labels everyone as a terrorist. But by supplying weapons, it acts like a terrorist state. Khamenei was targeted because he did not bow to US pressure. Even future leaders will stand against such interference,” he said.
While emotions ran high, authorities maintained a watchful presence to ensure law and order. No untoward incidents were reported during the vigil.
