School Education Department Extends Deadline for 2025–26 RTE Reimbursement Applications, Warns No Further Extension Will Be Granted

Bengaluru: The Karnataka School Education Department has issued an important directive providing a final opportunity for private unaided schools across the state to submit their pending reimbursement claims for students admitted under the Right to Education (RTE) quota. According to the latest order, schools can now file their online applications for the first and second instalments of fee reimbursement for the academic year 2025–26 until March 31, 2026.

Officials stated that the extension aims to ensure that all eligible institutions receive their pending dues while also ensuring compliance with the procedural requirements set by the department.

Extension of Application Deadline
The deadline for submitting reimbursement requests, which earlier concluded on February 28, 2026, has now been officially extended until March 31, 2026. The department clarified that the move was made after several schools sought additional time to complete the documentation and digital submission process through the designated portal.

The extension provides relief to institutions that had not yet completed the filing process for the RTE reimbursement claims.

Eligibility Criteria for Schools
The directive applies to all private unaided schools in Karnataka that admitted students under RTE seats during the 2025–26 academic year. These institutions are entitled to receive fee reimbursements from the government as part of the implementation of the Right to Education Act, which mandates free education for children from economically weaker sections.

By submitting their claims through the department’s software portal, schools can request reimbursement for both the first instalment that remains unclaimed and the second instalment currently pending approval.

Department Issues Final Warning
While announcing the extension, the School Education Department emphasised that this will be the final opportunity for schools to submit their reimbursement demands.
“No further extension will be granted under any circumstances,” the department clarified in its official circular, urging institutions to complete the application process within the revised timeline.
Officials noted that failure to comply within the extended deadline may result in schools losing the opportunity to claim reimbursement for the concerned academic year.

Instructions to Education Officials
The circular also directs Deputy Directors (Administration) and Block Education Officers (BEOs) to actively monitor the process and ensure that all eligible schools under their jurisdiction submit their claims before the deadline.
Authorities have been asked to guide schools through the process and verify submissions through the official digital system. The department further warned that concerned officials may be held accountable if schools fail to submit claims within the stipulated timeframe due to administrative negligence.
Immediate Action Required for Pending Claims
Schools that have not yet submitted claims for the first instalment and those waiting for the second instalment reimbursement have been strongly advised to complete the online procedure immediately through the official software portal. The department believes that timely submissions will help streamline payments and prevent delays in the disbursement of funds.

The extension is expected to help several schools that were struggling with procedural formalities and ensure smoother implementation of the RTE reimbursement mechanism across the state.
