British technician working for IPL broadcasting was found dead in a hotel near Wankhede Stadium; a probe is underway into the mysterious death
Mumbai: In a shocking development during the ongoing IPL 2026 season, a British broadcast engineer associated with BCCI was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a Mumbai hotel room, sending shockwaves across the cricketing world.
The deceased has been identified as Ian Williams Langford, who was working in the broadcasting division for the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Body Found in Hotel Room Near Wankhede
Langford had been staying at a hotel near Marine Drive since March 24. He was last seen after attending the high-voltage IPL match at Wankhede Stadium on March 29.
The match featured the Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders, where Mumbai chased down a massive total in a thrilling finish.
The following morning, hotel staff received no response from Langford despite repeated calls. Growing suspicious, they used a master key to enter Room No. 2715, where he was found lying unconscious on the floor.
A hotel doctor was immediately called, but he was declared dead at the scene.
Probe into Mysterious Death Begins
Police from the Marine Drive area have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine whether the death was natural or involved any foul play.
Officials are currently examining CCTV footage, collecting evidence from the room, and questioning hotel staff.
“We are investigating all possible angles. The exact cause of death will be known after the postmortem report,” police sources said.
British Embassy Informed
As the deceased was a foreign national, authorities have informed the British Embassy, and further procedures are being carried out as per protocol.

The incident has deeply shocked IPL and BCCI officials, especially as it occurred amid the excitement of ongoing matches.
Sources within BCCI described Langford as a highly skilled and dedicated engineer whose sudden death has left colleagues in grief.
