Anantapur: A routine seat dispute aboard the Yelahanka–Kacheguda Express escalated into a shocking security scare after a retired CRPF constable allegedly brandished a licensed pistol and threatened fellow passengers in the general coach, triggering panic mid-journey.

The accused, identified as Manohar, a retired constable of the Central Reserve Police Force, was detained after alert passengers sent photographic evidence of the altercation to the Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force via WhatsApp. Acting on the complaint, authorities halted the train at Guntakal in Anantapur district and questioned the accused.

Seat Dispute Turns Into Gun Threat

According to preliminary information, two passengers in the crowded general coach got into an argument over seating space during the journey from Yelahanka to Kacheguda. What began as a verbal altercation quickly intensified.

Witnesses said that during the heated exchange, Manohar allegedly pulled out a pistol and threatened another passenger, leaving the compartment in shock.

Passengers reported that fear gripped the coach as the weapon was displayed in a confined public space, endangering dozens of travellers.

Alert Passenger’s Swift Action Leads to Detention

In a crucial turn of events, an observant passenger reportedly took photographs of the confrontation from a distance and immediately shared them with railway authorities through WhatsApp, flagging the incident as a serious security concern.

By the time the train reached Guntakal Railway Division, police personnel were ready. The train was briefly stopped, and officers boarded the coach to identify and question the accused.

Police later confirmed that the firearm in question was a licensed pistol. However, authorities emphasised that brandishing or threatening with a licensed weapon in a public place constitutes a serious offense.

Case Registered, Probe Underway

A formal case has been registered against the retired CRPF constable. Investigators are examining the circumstances under which the weapon was drawn and whether additional charges under arms and public safety laws are applicable.

Officials are also reviewing passenger statements and verifying digital evidence, including the photographs submitted to the police.

Panic and Public Safety Concerns

Authorities reiterated that carrying a licensed firearm does not grant immunity from legal consequences if it is misused or displayed in a threatening manner.

Further investigation is ongoing, and officials have indicated that appropriate legal action will follow based on the findings.
