Police Say Pre-Planned Attack Rooted in Love Rivalry; Call Records Expose Plot, Weapon Recovered Near Mulagund
Gadag: In a sensational breakthrough, police have revealed a major twist in the murder case of a youth whose body was found in an agricultural field on the outskirts of Lakshmeshwar, sending shockwaves across Gadag. The victim has been identified as Mohammed Farooq Shaikh Sanadi (25), a resident of Shigli village. Investigators have confirmed that Farooq was allegedly murdered by the lover of the woman to whom he was recently engaged.
The body of Farooq was discovered on Friday with severe injuries, including a slit throat, in a farmland near Lakshmeshwar. The brutal nature of the crime triggered panic and fear among local residents. Lakshmeshwar police immediately rushed to the spot, conducted a preliminary inspection, and launched an intensive investigation.
Last Phone Call Leads Police to Shocking Murder Plot
According to police sources, Farooq had received a phone call on Friday afternoon, after which he left his house. When he did not return, a search was initiated, and his body was later found in the field. Investigators traced the victim’s call records, which led them to uncover what they described as a pre-planned murder rooted in a love rivalry.
Engagement Turns Fatal Amid Hidden Relationship
Police investigations revealed that Farooq had been engaged about one-and-a-half months ago, and wedding preparations were underway. However, the woman he was engaged to had allegedly been in a romantic relationship for nearly five years with another man identified as Davalasab. The two reportedly met on Instagram five years ago, and their online acquaintance gradually turned into a relationship.
Despite this, Farooq’s engagement was finalised recently, a development that reportedly enraged Davalasab, who was unwilling to accept the marriage arrangement.
Love Rivalry Allegedly Triggers Brutal Killing
According to investigators, Davalasab allegedly called Farooq and informed him about his relationship with the woman, attempting to persuade him to withdraw from the engagement. When Farooq refused, a heated argument reportedly broke out between them. During this confrontation, Farooq was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon and killed.
The prime accused, Davalasab Makandar, along with three others, is accused of executing the crime. Police said the accused arrived at the spot in a car, committed the murder, and later attempted to destroy evidence.
“The investigation revealed that the murder was premeditated and driven by personal rivalry. Swift action led to the arrest of all involved,” a senior police officer told.
Weapon Disposed, Accused Attempt Escape
Police further stated that after the murder, the accused disposed of the weapon by throwing a sickle into a stream near Mulagund village before fleeing the scene. Based on technical evidence and interrogation, police were able to track down the suspects.
Accused Arrested, Including Two Juveniles
A case has been registered, and two special investigation teams were formed to nab the accused. Police have arrested Davalasab Makandar, Makkabool Sab, and two juveniles, who have been booked under relevant sections of law.
Confirming the arrests, Rohan Jagadish, Superintendent of Police of Gadag district, said all the accused have been produced before the authorities, and further investigation is underway.
The incident has left Lakshmeshwar and the surrounding areas stunned, once again highlighting the tragic consequences of unresolved relationships and emotional conflicts escalating into violent crime.
