Homes develop cracks after explosives used for well digging in Ramakunja village of Kadaba taluk; police, FSL and bomb disposal squad begin safety operationKadaba: Houses located near a site where explosives were reportedly used for digging a well were damaged in an incident that occurred on Sunday, March 8, at Kampa in Ramakunja village of Kadaba taluk.
Authorities have now launched a safety operation after it was discovered that some explosive material remained unexploded inside the well, posing potential danger to residents in the surrounding area. On the morning of March 10, personnel from the bomb disposal squad began a controlled operation to safely remove the unexploded material.
Incident Linked to Well Digging Activity
The incident took place on a plot of land at Kampa in Ramakunja village, where Somasekhar, a resident of Mysuru, had reportedly purchased 23 cents of agricultural land from his relatives. The land contains areca nut trees, and efforts were underway to dig a well in search of groundwater.
According to local sources, excavation progressed until workers encountered hard rock at a depth of approximately 15 feet. To continue the digging work, explosives were allegedly used to break the rock formation, a practice sometimes employed in rural well construction.
Nearby Houses Develop Cracks After Blast
During the detonation carried out on Sunday, the impact reportedly caused visible cracks in the walls of nearby residential houses belonging to Vamana Moolya and K T Mohan, both residents living close to the well site.
Alarmed by the structural damage and the potential risk posed by the use of explosives, the affected residents approached the authorities and lodged a complaint with the Kadaba police station.
“Cracks appeared on the walls of nearby houses following the explosion used during well digging,” residents stated while filing the complaint with police.
Police Register Case, Launch Inquiry
Following the complaint, Sub-Inspector Jamburaj Mahajan of Kadaba Police Station visited the location on the same day to assess the situation. After preliminary inspection, the police registered a case and initiated an inquiry into the incident.
Officials are also examining whether proper permissions and safety protocols were followed before the use of explosives at the well-digging site.
Bomb Disposal Squad Begins Safety Operation
As reports emerged that some explosive material remained unexploded inside the well, authorities decided to initiate a precautionary operation to eliminate the risk.
On the morning of March 10, personnel from the bomb disposal squad, fire and emergency services, Kadaba police and members of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team arrived at the location.
The teams began a carefully coordinated operation to retrieve and neutralise the unexploded material from inside the well, ensuring the safety of nearby residents and preventing any further damage.
Local residents have been advised to maintain distance from the area until the operation is fully completed.
