Dharwad: In a tragic incident, a 32-year-old homemaker suffered severe burn injuries after a petrol can stored inside her house caught fire and exploded, engulfing the entire home in flames in Dharwad district.
The incident occurred on Monday night in Tadakod village’s Harijankeri locality, where petrol had reportedly been stored inside the house due to rumours of fuel shortage.
The victim, identified as Poornima Hadimani (32), sustained over 80% burn injuries, leaving her in a critical condition.
Fire Triggered Near Kitchen Area
According to initial reports, the petrol was stored in a can and kept near the refrigerator. While Poornima was in the kitchen, the can suddenly caught fire and exploded, rapidly spreading flames across the house.
“The fire spread quickly after the explosion, causing extensive damage and trapping the victim inside,” sources said.

Fortunately, other family members who were sitting outside the house at the time escaped unharmed.
Victim Shifted to KIMS, Condition Critical
Poornima was initially treated at the district hospital and later shifted to Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) for advanced treatment, where her condition remains critical.
Fire Services and Police Action
Fire and emergency services rushed to the spot and managed to extinguish the blaze after a major effort.
