27-year-old arrested while attempting to supply ganja, SIM cards to undertrial inmate; security alert inside Bengaluru’s central prison
Bengaluru: In a major security breach, a woman was caught red-handed attempting to smuggle narcotics and SIM cards into Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, raising fresh concerns over illegal activities inside the high-security facility.
The accused has been identified as Rithika Rai (27), who was detained on March 26 while visiting an undertrial inmate, Faran Khan.
Her suspicious behaviour near the prison’s main gate alerted female security personnel, who immediately intercepted and conducted a thorough search.
Contraband Seized During Search
During the inspection, officials recovered multiple prohibited items hidden on her person, allegedly intended to be delivered inside the jail.
The seized items include:
- 30 grams of ganja
- 3 Airtel SIM cards
- Bundles of beedis
“The accused attempted to sneak in banned items, but alert staff prevented a serious security breach,” officials said.
Case Registered, Probe Intensifies
Following the seizure, a case has been registered at the Parappana Agrahara Police Station, and the accused has been taken into custody for further interrogation.
Police are now investigating who instructed her to carry the contraband and whether a larger network is involved, including possible links with inmates or insiders.
Authorities are expected to tighten surveillance and screening protocols to prevent such breaches in the future.
