Bengaluru: Senior Congress leader BK Hariprasad has questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not expressed condolences over the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, alleging that India’s diplomatic system is in crisis. Speaking in Bengaluru, Hariprasad said India had historically followed a neutral foreign policy under Nehru and promoted the Non-Aligned Movement, which he claimed is being undermined.

Allegations Against the US and Israel
Hariprasad criticised the US and Israel for allegedly carrying out the assassination “through deceit,” calling it a violation of the United Nations Charter and a threat to the sovereignty and independence of nations. He said:

“America and Israel have done something to destroy the sovereignty and independence of a nation. Prime Minister Modi has not expressed condolences, showing that India’s diplomatic system is bankrupt.”

Historical Context of India-Iran Relations
Hariprasad emphasised that Iran has been an ally of India, citing instances when Islamic countries criticised India over Kashmir human rights issues, but Iran had supported India. He noted that India had also supported Iran during the Vajpayee government.

Criticism of Netanyahu and Modi’s Israel Visit
Hariprasad called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a big murderer, questioning which governments the US and Israel might target next. He further criticised PM Modi’s visit to Israel, questioning the rationale while alleging that the Prime Minister overlooked domestic issues like the Manipur unrest.
