Runaway BMTC electric bus rams into the traffic controller room at Peenya depot, four bikes damaged, no casualties reported in a narrow escape

Bengaluru: A major accident was narrowly averted at the Peenya 2nd Phase BMTC depot in Bengaluru after a BMTC electric bus went out of control and rammed into the traffic controller’s room today, triggering a serious safety scare within the premises.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over operational negligence and safety protocols within the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation.

Driver Negligence Behind Incident
According to initial reports, the driver of the BMTC electric bus (KA 51 AK 4169) allegedly failed to apply the hand brake after stopping the vehicle, leading to the bus automatically rolling forward.

Within moments, the unattended bus crashed into the depot structure, directly hitting the traffic controller’s room, causing panic among staff present at the location.

Property Damage, But No Casualties
The impact of the crash resulted in damage to at least four parked bikes, highlighting the potential severity of the situation. However, in a fortunate turn of events, no injuries or casualties were reported, averting what could have escalated into a major disaster.

Officials confirmed that the incident occurred within the depot premises, where employee movement is usually high, making the narrow escape even more significant.

Officials Rush to Spot, Probe Underway
Following the accident, BMTC officials and authorities immediately reached the spot and conducted a preliminary inspection. Early findings have pointed to driver negligence as the primary cause, though a detailed inquiry is expected to determine any procedural lapses or accountability issues.
