Police expose staged heart attack drama in Chikkanayakanahalli; complaint by close associate leads to shocking breakthrough in Jayalakshmi murder case

Tumakuru: Tumakuru police have solved the murder case of Jayalakshmi, a First Division Assistant (FDA) at the Turuvekere BEO office, arresting her sister Anasuya and adopted son Chandrashekhar for allegedly smothering her to death and staging it as a heart attack. The accused have been taken into judicial custody.

According to police sources, the crime came to light after a formal complaint filed by Srinivas, a close associate of the deceased, raised suspicions over her sudden death. Acting on the complaint, the Chikkanayakanahalli police launched an investigation that uncovered what officials described as a “pre-planned murder disguised as natural death.”

Heart Attack Claim Turns Into Murder Probe
Jayalakshmi, a resident of Jogipalya in Chikkanayakanahalli, had only two years left before retirement. Financially stable and reportedly in good health, she was found dead on the morning of February 19 after having dinner with her sister and adopted son the previous night. Anasuya and Chandrashekhar initially informed relatives that she had died of a heart attack, and funeral preparations were swiftly arranged in Kantalagere village.

Police intervened just before the burial, declaring the death suspicious.
“The sequence of events and the speed at which the funeral was arranged raised serious doubts. The investigation confirmed it was not a natural death,” a senior police official said.
Motive Linked to Property and Compassionate Job

Investigators revealed that Jayalakshmi had adopted her sister’s son, Chandrashekhar, years ago after losing her husband, a government school teacher, 25 years earlier. She had secured her government job on compassionate grounds following his death.
Police say Anasuya and Chandrashekhar believed that as the adopted son, Chandrashekhar would inherit her property and potentially secure a compassionate government appointment if her death appeared natural while she was still in service.
However, recent developments reportedly altered their plans. Jayalakshmi had decided to move out of her Chikkanayakanahalli residence and shift to Turuvekere to live with Srinivas, a cable operator with whom she shared a close relationship. She had even paid an advance for a rented house and was preparing to relocate. Fearing loss of financial security and property, the accused allegedly conspired to eliminate her.

Alleged Murder on February 19
On the night of February 19, after dinner, Anasuya and Chandrashekhar allegedly smothered Jayalakshmi with a pillow while she was asleep. They later fabricated a heart attack narrative and informed relatives, rushing to conduct the last rites before suspicions could arise.

The plan unravelled when Srinivas, aware of family tensions, approached the police with doubts about the circumstances of her death. His complaint prompted a detailed inquiry that exposed inconsistencies in the accused’s statements.

Both Anasuya and 22-year-old Chandrashekhar have been arrested and charged with murder. Police confirmed that further investigation is underway.
