Bengaluru: Responding to escalating calls from parents and educators, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar Today confirmed that the possible ban on mobile phones for students in Karnataka is currently under discussion within the state government. Speaking with reporters at his Sadashivanagar residence, Shivakumar said the proposal has gained momentum following concerns over misuse among students.
“We have banned mobile phones in our schools too. We can’t disclose how mobiles are being misused. Mobiles in schools are banned in many other countries, too. Hence, a similar ban is being discussed here too,” he stated.
Clarity on Bengaluru Lakes Water Quality
Addressing queries about reports claiming Bengaluru lakes’ water is safe for use, Shivakumar reiterated that the government has never declared lake water fit for drinking or bathing.
He said that the primary purpose of lake water is groundwater recharge, and not public consumption. The Deputy CM added that the Thippagondanahalli reservoir water is being treated by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).
