Teen Allegedly Kills Aunt in Vasai West After Reprimand Over TV Addiction; Two Minors Sent to Remand Home

Palghar: A 65-year-old woman was allegedly bludgeoned to death by her 15-year-old nephew and his friend after she reprimanded him over his addiction to television in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, police said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Sunday night in Berhampur village in Vasai West. The victim, who lived alone in her bungalow, was found dead on Monday morning.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Purnima Chowgule-Shringi said preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had scolded her nephew, a school dropout, about his career path and excessive television viewing. Angered by the reprimand, the teenager allegedly called a friend to the house and planned the attack.

Attacked from Behind with Wooden Log

According to police, the accused allegedly caught the woman unawares and attacked her from behind using a wooden log and a bamboo stick. She died on the spot due to the severity of the assault.

The two minors reportedly attempted to conceal the body inside a bed storage compartment but failed and later fled the scene.

The crime came to light when the victim’s daughter, unable to contact her mother over the phone, asked her brother to check on her. He discovered the body lying on the floor and alerted authorities.

Confession During Police Interrogation

During questioning, the nephew allegedly confessed to the crime, officials said. Police further revealed that the minor had previously stolen from his aunt three months ago, after which she reportedly deposited her jewellery in a bank locker.

A case of murder has been registered against the two boys. They have been detained and sent to a remand home, police confirmed.
