Forensic Findings Add New Twist to Bengaluru Techie’s Murder; Police Await Final Confirmation on Rape Timeline

Bengaluru: The investigation into the murder of a Bengaluru-based tech professional, Sharmila, has taken a significant turn after the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report reportedly detected the presence of the accused’s semen on the victim’s clothes. The development has prompted police to intensify their probe into a possible sexual assault linked to the crime.

Forensic Evidence Strengthens Assault Suspicion

According to senior police officials associated with the case, preliminary forensic findings indicate biological traces matching the accused were found on Sharmila’s clothing. Investigators are examining whether the assault occurred before or after her death, a detail that will be clarified in the final FSL analysis.
Police sources stated that during interrogation, the accused allegedly attempted to sexually assault Sharmila. When she resisted, he is suspected of having pushed her to the ground and strangled her. Authorities believe that the accused may have committed sexual assault after the killing, but confirmation is pending a detailed forensic evaluation.
“The FSL report has detected biological evidence. We are awaiting the final confirmation regarding the sequence of events to determine whether the assault occurred before or after death,” a senior police officer said.

Critical Phase of Investigation

The forensic report is expected to play a decisive role in strengthening the charges against the accused. If confirmed, additional sections related to sexual assault may be invoked under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code.
Investigators are also reviewing crime scene evidence, digital records, and witness statements to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to Sharmila’s death. Officials emphasised that all procedures are being carried out in accordance with legal and forensic standards to ensure a strong prosecution case.
Authorities have assured that the investigation is being conducted with utmost seriousness and sensitivity, and that justice will be pursued through due legal process. Further updates are expected once the final forensic report is formally submitted to the court.
