Bengaluru: Serious allegations have surfaced against the Inspector of Varthur Police Station, with the family of a murdered LLB student accusing him of colluding with rowdy sheeters and deliberately weakening the investigation.
The case pertains to the murder of 24-year-old LLB student Revanth, who was allegedly hacked to death on September 18, 2024, by a rowdy sheeter identified as Reva and associates. According to the family, the attack took place in front of Revanth’s uncle after he was allegedly pressured to withdraw a case linked to an earlier assault on his friend.
Background of the Case
Revanth had reportedly assisted in registering a complaint related to an attack on his friend. Family members allege that the accused pressured him to compromise and withdraw the case. Despite initial talks of a settlement, the assailants allegedly attacked and killed him.
The investigation was later transferred, and the Varthur Police took over the probe. However, the victim’s family has alleged procedural lapses in the handling of the case.
Delay in Chargesheet and Bail of Accused
The family claims that the police failed to file a chargesheet within the mandatory 90-day period, leading to bail for seven accused, including the alleged prime accused, a known rowdy sheeter.
The court had reportedly imposed conditions requiring the prime accused to mark attendance daily at the police station after securing bail. However, allegations have been made that the accused is not regularly appearing at the station, and instead, police personnel are allegedly facilitating compliance elsewhere.
Threats and Demand for Protection
Revanth’s family has also alleged that they and key witnesses were threatened by rowdies after the accused were released on bail. They claim that despite requesting police protection, no adequate measures were taken.
Expressing anguish, the victim’s parents have demanded that senior police officials initiate an independent inquiry into the conduct of the investigating officer and ensure justice in the case.
Authorities have not yet issued an official response regarding the allegations. Further developments are awaited.
