Chikkamagaluru: Three children drowned while swimming in a lake in Marle village of Chikkamagaluru taluk, leaving their families and the local community in shock.
The deceased children, all aged 12, were from the same village and were studying in Class 6 at different schools. They had gone swimming in the lake during their Dussehra school vacation.
The children drowned while swimming near structures built by women near the lake for washing clothes and utensils. The incident came to light shortly afterwards, following which villagers gathered at the spot.
Family members who reached the scene were left in shock. The village community mourned after the bodies of the children were recovered and placed at the site.
According to the available information, the depth of the lake had increased after silt accumulated in the waterbody last year. The children were reportedly unaware of the depth while swimming in the lake.
Chikkamagaluru Rural Police Register Case
Chikkamagaluru Rural Police visited the spot and conducted an inspection following the incident.
Police have registered a case and are carrying out further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
