Nana Patekar’s long association with Mundkur in Udupi’s Karkala taluk is being remembered following his demise, with locals recalling his contributions to religious and educational institutions

Veteran actor Nana Patekar’s close association with Mundkur in Udupi district is being recalled after his demise, particularly his contributions to temple renovation, educational institutions and community projects.


Udupi: The people of Mundkur in Karkala taluk of Udupi district have expressed condolences following the demise of veteran Bollywood actor Nana Patekar, recalling his longstanding association with the town and his contributions to religious and educational initiatives.


Nana Patekar, who used to visit Mundkur several years ago, had extended financial and other support to several local projects. His association with the town is particularly remembered for contributions to the development and renovation of the Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple.


About 25 years ago, Patekar reportedly extended a helping hand towards the development of the Mundkur Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple. He also contributed to the temple’s renovation and the Brahma Kalashotsava.


Nana Patekar Auditorium Remains A Memory In Mundkur

The Nana Patekar Auditorium, built with his contribution, continues to stand as a reminder of his association with Mundkur. The auditorium, described as being worth crores of rupees, remains one of the prominent memories of his contribution to the town.

Patekar Was A Friend Of Guruprasad Sudhakar Shetty

Nana Patekar was a friend of Guruprasad Sudhakar Shetty of Mulladka and used to visit Mundkur frequently. He also extended support to religious activities at the Mulladka Brahma Baidarkala Garadi and the Mundkur Kaje Sri Mahamayi Temple.

Nana Patekar Supported Educational Initiatives

Patekar also contributed to the 60th anniversary celebrations of the century-old Government Higher Primary School in Mundkur.

He helped with the construction of a library and computer room at Vidyavardhaka Pre-University College in Mundkur and also donated computers to the institution.

Nana Patekar Wanted Gurukul-Style Education In Mundkur

Patekar had also expressed his desire to establish a Gurukul-style education system in Mundkur.


For the people of Mundkur, his association with the town therefore extends beyond his career in cinema. Recalled as someone who was like Karna to Mundkur, his contributions to religious and educational initiatives have left behind memories that residents say will remain for years to come.
