Hubballi: A 41-year-old labourer died after being buried under a massive mound of rain-soaked soil while carrying out excavation work for a drainage canal in Hubballi on Wednesday. The fatal accident has raised serious concerns over workplace safety, with allegations that the contractor failed to implement mandatory precautionary measures at the construction site.
The deceased has been identified as Mallappa Jogin (41), a resident of Hallikeri village in Annigeri taluk. He reportedly died on the spot after the soil suddenly gave way and he collapsed into the excavation pit where he was working.
Hubballi Canal Construction Accident Claims Labourer's Life
The incident occurred during the construction of a drainage system connecting the Raja Canal near Gujarat Bhavan in Hubballi. According to preliminary information, Mallappa was engaged in digging work when rain-soaked earth unexpectedly caved in, trapping him beneath the debris.
Despite efforts to respond to the emergency, the labourer succumbed to his injuries at the scene before he could be rescued.
