BESCOM July average electricity bills announced during Gruha Jyothi verification; actual billing continues for select consumer categories
The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) has announced that electricity consumers will receive average power bills for July as regular meter readings have been temporarily suspended. The move comes as BESCOM meter readers have been assigned to conduct door-to-door verification of beneficiaries under the Gruha Jyothi Scheme across its service areas.
Bengaluru: The temporary billing arrangement has been introduced to facilitate the verification process under the Karnataka government's Gruha Jyothi Scheme without disrupting field operations. BESCOM clarified that the average billing system will be applicable only for the July billing cycle, after which regular meter readings and consumption-based billing will resume.
"Regular meter readings for July have been suspended as meter readers are engaged in the door-to-door verification of Gruha Jyothi Scheme beneficiaries," BESCOM said.
BESCOM July Average Electricity Bills Based on Last Three Months
According to BESCOM, July electricity bills will be calculated using the average power consumption recorded during the previous three months. This ensures consumers continue to receive bills while field staff complete beneficiary verification activities.

The utility stated that these average bills will be delivered only through SMS and email, instead of the usual meter-reading process.
Consumers are advised to check their registered mobile numbers and email addresses to receive the billing details promptly.
These Consumer Categories Will Continue to Receive Actual Bills
BESCOM clarified that the temporary average billing arrangement will not apply to certain categories of electricity consumers.
The following consumers will continue to receive bills based on actual meter readings during July:
- High Tension (HT) consumers
- Low Tension (LT) consumers with a connected load of 40 HP and above
- Solar Rooftop (SRTPV) consumers
- Temporary electricity connection holders
These categories will follow the regular billing process without any changes.
Regular Meter Reading to Resume from August
BESCOM has confirmed that normal meter reading operations will resume from August, after the Gruha Jyothi verification exercise is completed.
Once actual meter readings restart, any variation between the average units billed in July and the consumer's actual electricity consumption will be automatically adjusted in subsequent bills.
This adjustment mechanism is intended to ensure consumers are billed accurately over the billing cycle without financial loss due to the temporary arrangement.
"Any difference between average billing and actual consumption will be adjusted in future electricity bills after regular meter readings resume," BESCOM stated.
All Existing BESCOM Payment Options Remain Available
Despite the temporary billing method, BESCOM said consumers can continue using all existing payment channels to clear their electricity bills.
Payments can be made through:
- BESCOM subdivision cash counters
- BESCOM's official website
- Mobile payment platforms and authorised third-party applications
- Other existing digital payment modes
The utility has advised consumers to make payments within the stipulated due date to avoid any inconvenience.
