Bengaluru East City Corporation accelerates Gunjur Rajakaluve work, Panathur encroachment removal, SH-35 to PRR road development and flood mitigation projects

The Bengaluru East City Corporation (BECC) has directed officials to complete the remaining Gunjur Club Road rajakaluve (stormwater drain) development work within 15 days while expediting road infrastructure and encroachment clearance projects across Gunjur, Panathur and nearby areas. During a field inspection, Commissioner D.S. Ramesh instructed engineers to adhere to deadlines, improve drainage infrastructure and ensure that ongoing works cause minimal inconvenience to the public.

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru East City Corporation has intensified its focus on stormwater drainage and road infrastructure projects in the eastern part of the city as part of efforts to strengthen flood management and improve connectivity. Commissioner D.S. Ramesh reviewed the progress of multiple civic works, including rajakaluve development, road construction and encroachment removal, and directed officials to expedite pending projects.

“All pending works must be completed within the stipulated timeline while ensuring that public inconvenience is kept to a minimum,” Commissioner D.S. Ramesh directed during the inspection.

Gunjur Rajakaluve Work to Be Completed Within 15 Days in Bengaluru

While inspecting the Gunjur Club Road rajakaluve project, the Commissioner reviewed the ongoing development work and noted that nearly 60% of the project has already been completed.

Officials informed him that the remaining stretch connecting Vajpayee Stadium to the Gunjur Palya canal is still under progress. Commissioner Ramesh instructed the engineering team to complete the balance work within the next 15 days to facilitate smooth stormwater flow before further monsoon activity.

The direction comes as Bengaluru continues to strengthen its drainage network to reduce waterlogging and improve rainwater management in rapidly developing neighbourhoods.

Road Asphalting Ordered Immediately After Rajakaluve Completion in Bengaluru

The Commissioner also reviewed road conditions at Gunjur Club Road and instructed the concerned Executive Engineer to begin road asphalting immediately after the rajakaluve work is completed.

He stressed that the road development should be executed on priority so that commuters experience minimal disruption. Officials were asked to coordinate drainage and road works efficiently to avoid repeated excavation and unnecessary inconvenience to residents.

Panathur Rajakaluve Encroachments to Face Immediate Removal in Bengaluru

During the inspection of the Panathur rajakaluve, Commissioner D.S. Ramesh directed officials to launch immediate action against all illegal encroachments affecting the stormwater drain.

He emphasised that encroachments obstructing rajakaluves would not be permitted under any circumstances, particularly during the monsoon season when unrestricted rainwater flow is essential to prevent urban flooding.

Officials were instructed to begin encroachment clearance drives without delay and ensure that the stormwater drain network remains free from obstructions.

“Illegal encroachments on rajakaluves must be removed immediately to ensure uninterrupted rainwater flow and strengthen flood mitigation measures,” the Commissioner instructed.

SH-35 to PRR Road Development Project Progress Reviewed in Bengaluru

The inspection also covered the proposed road development project connecting State Highway-35 (SH-35) to the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR).

According to officials, the project involves the construction of a 150-foot (45-metre) wide road extending approximately one kilometre.

The Commissioner stated that the required Relinquishment Deed and Transferable Development Rights (TDR) processes have already been completed, enabling the civic body to move ahead with the project.

The comprehensive road development, along with associated infrastructure, will be executed using Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding. Authorities have set a target of completing the project within the next three months.

Bengaluru Senior Civic Officials Participate in Inspection

The field inspection was attended by Chief Engineer M. Lokesh, Executive Engineers Raghavendra and Munireddy, Assistant Executive Engineers, Assistant Engineers and other officials from the Bengaluru East City Corporation.

The civic body said regular monitoring of infrastructure projects will continue to ensure timely completion of drainage improvements, road upgrades and flood mitigation initiatives across Bengaluru East.
