AIDYO staged a protest at Bengaluru's Freedom Park condemning the removal of Sonam Wangchuk from his indefinite hunger strike and reiterated demands related to examination reforms
The Karnataka State Committee of the All India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO) organised a protest at Freedom Park in Bengaluru condemning the police removal of Sonam Wangchuk from his indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar. The organisation also demanded action against examination paper leaks, abolition of the National Testing Agency (NTA), and protection of the democratic right to protest.
Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Committee of the All India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO) held a state-level protest at Freedom Park in Bengaluru Today, condemning the police removal of environmentalist and social activist Sonam Wangchuk from his indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
According to AIDYO, Wangchuk has been on an indefinite hunger strike for the past 21 days, demanding action against repeated public examination paper leak cases, particularly the alleged NEET-UG paper leak, and seeking measures to safeguard the interests of students and youth across the country.
AIDYO Raises Concerns Over Sonam Wangchuk Hunger Strike
The organisation stated that Wangchuk has been surviving only on water and salt during the protest and claimed that his health has deteriorated significantly.

According to AIDYO, police removed Wangchuk from the protest site on Friday and shifted him to a hospital. The organisation alleged that the demonstration at Jantar Mantar had remained peaceful and criticised the deployment of a heavy police presence at the venue.
AIDYO alleged that the removal of Sonam Wangchuk from the protest site amounted to a violation of the democratic right to peaceful protest.
Organisation Raises Examination Reform Demands
During the protest, AIDYO said repeated public examination paper leak cases have affected the credibility of recruitment and admission examinations across the country. The organisation claimed that such incidents have impacted the aspirations of students and job seekers.
AIDYO further stated that academic pressure, examination irregularities and unemployment have become matters of concern and called for accountability in the examination system.
The organisation said the nationwide movement has evolved into a campaign seeking transparency, accountability and justice for students and youth.
AIDYO Lists Key Demands
During the demonstration, the organisation placed the following demands before the Central Government:
- Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan should resign.
- The National Testing Agency (NTA) should be abolished.
- Strong measures should be implemented to prevent question paper leaks and strict action should be taken against those responsible.
- Police action against peaceful demonstrations should stop, and the democratic right to protest should be protected.
The protest called for immediate dialogue with the protesters and implementation of measures to address examination-related concerns, according to AIDYO.
Leaders Address Protest at Freedom Park in Bengaluru
Addressing the gathering, G. Shashikumar, All India Vice President of AIDYO, criticised the Central Government for not initiating discussions with Wangchuk despite the ongoing hunger strike, according to the organisation.
Karnataka State President Sharanappa Udbal also addressed the gathering and expressed concern over what the organisation described as the suppression of democratic protests.
The demonstration was presided over by State Secretary Siddalinga Bagewadi, while state office-bearers, committee members and AIDYO activists participated in the protest held at Freedom Park.
