Tragic accident in Gundlupet claims the life of a four-year-old, renewing concerns over electrical safety in homes and public spaces

A four-year-old girl lost her life after allegedly suffering an electric shock from a grinder at her home in Chamarajanagar district's Gundlupet taluk. The incident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by electrical appliances and faulty wiring, particularly for young children, amid a series of similar electrocution tragedies reported across Karnataka in recent years.

Chamarajanagar: In a tragic incident reported from Kaligowdanahalli village in Gundlupet taluk of Chamarajanagar district, a four-year-old girl died after being electrocuted by a grinder inside her home.

The deceased has been identified as Advita, daughter of Anand and Puttamma. According to preliminary information, the child was playing inside the house when the accident occurred.

Child Electrocuted After Touching Running Grinder

Family members said Advita had gone to the kitchen to drink water while playing at home. During that time, she reportedly came into contact with a grinder that was switched on.

As soon as she touched the appliance, she suffered a severe electric shock and collapsed. Relatives immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital for treatment.

However, doctors declared the child brought dead, confirming that she had succumbed to the electrocution before medical assistance could save her.

"The child was immediately shifted to a hospital after the incident, but doctors confirmed that she had already passed away," sources said.

Electrical Safety Concerns Resurface After Chamarajanagar Tragedy

The heartbreaking death has once again drawn attention to electrical safety hazards inside homes, particularly the risks posed by household appliances and wiring systems accessible to children.

Electrical accidents involving domestic appliances continue to be a significant safety concern across Karnataka, with experts repeatedly stressing the importance of proper grounding, routine maintenance and child-safe electrical installations.

The latest tragedy has left residents of Kaligowdanahalli village in shock, with locals mourning the loss of the young child.

Series Of Electrocution Deaths Reported Across Karnataka

The Chamarajanagar incident adds to a growing list of electrocution-related fatalities reported across Karnataka over the past decade.

Data and reported incidents indicate that children have frequently been among the victims of electrical accidents linked to faulty appliances, exposed wires and inadequate safety measures.

Some notable incidents reported in recent years include:

Raichur School Water Filter Tragedy

In January 2026, a 10-year-old schoolgirl, Tanushree Shamanna Bhajantri, died after suffering an electric shock while drawing water from a reportedly faulty water filter at a government primary school in Kurukunda village of Raichur district.

Mother And Son Electrocuted In Hoskote

In February 2023, four-year-old Jayanand was electrocuted by a defective immersion water heater in a bathroom in Hoskote. His mother, Jyothi, also lost her life while attempting to rescue him.

Kolar Live Wire Incident

In May 2026, seven-year-old Syed Rehman died after accidentally coming into contact with a live electric wire that had fallen onto a road following heavy rainfall in Kolar district.

High-Tension Wire Death In Bengaluru

In June 2025, a 10-year-old boy named Ananth suffered fatal injuries after reportedly touching a 220-kV high-tension transmission wire with a metal rod while playing near his residence in K.R. Puram.

Electric Pole Shock Claims Girl's Life

Another tragedy occurred in June 2025 when 11-year-old Tanishka died after accidentally touching a live electric pole while playing outside her home in Narayanaghatta village on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

Public Infrastructure-Related Electrocution Cases

Several electrocution deaths linked to public infrastructure have also been reported in Karnataka over the years.

In November 2023, a 23-year-old woman, Soundarya, and her nine-month-old daughter Suviksha, were electrocuted after coming into contact with a live wire hanging over a flooded pavement in Whitefield.

Similarly, in September 2021, a seven-year-old boy died after touching an exposed live wire connected to a high-mast lighting pole inside a public park in Kalaburagi.

"Electrical accidents involving children continue to highlight the need for improved safety standards in homes, schools and public spaces."

Need For Stronger Electrical Safety Measures

The recurring incidents have prompted calls for stricter safety audits of household appliances, educational institutions and public electrical infrastructure.

Experts recommend regular inspection of electrical equipment, proper earthing systems, installation of safety devices and increased awareness among parents to prevent children from accessing potentially dangerous appliances.

The death of little Advita serves as another painful reminder of the risks posed by electrical hazards and the urgent need for preventive safety measures across Karnataka.
