A relationship that began on Instagram ended in tragedy as investigators probe a suspected murder inside a Bengaluru home
A 20-year-old woman from Sakleshpur was allegedly murdered by her live-in partner in Bengaluru’s Malleswaram area after a domestic dispute escalated into violence. Police have arrested the accused, who reportedly confessed to the crime through a lawyer before authorities launched an investigation.
Bengaluru: In a chilling case that has shocked Bengaluru, a 20-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her live-in partner following a heated argument at their rented residence in the city. The incident, reported within the jurisdiction of the Malleswaram Police Station, has once again drawn attention to crimes emerging from troubled relationships and live-in partnerships.
The deceased has been identified as Anusha (20), a native of Sakleshpur in Hassan district. The accused, Sharath (25), who is also from the same region, has been arrested by police in connection with the murder.
According to preliminary investigations, the couple had been living together in Bengaluru for nearly six months after becoming acquainted through Instagram. What reportedly began as an online friendship eventually developed into a romantic relationship, leading them to move into a rented house together in the city.
Instagram Friendship Led to a Live-In Relationship
Investigators revealed that Anusha and Sharath first connected through Instagram, where their friendship gradually evolved into a romantic relationship. Over time, the couple decided to live together in Bengaluru.
Sharath was employed as a water tanker driver in the city, while Anusha was reportedly not working. The pair had rented accommodation in the Thyappa Garden locality of Malleswaram and had been residing there for the past six months.
Police sources indicate that although the relationship initially appeared stable, disagreements had become increasingly frequent in recent months.
“The two became acquainted through Instagram, entered into a relationship, and had been living together in Bengaluru for nearly six months,” investigators said.
Frequent Relationship Disputes Reportedly Triggered Tensions
According to information gathered during the investigation, repeated arguments over personal and domestic matters had become a recurring feature of the couple’s relationship.
Sources suggest that household responsibilities often became a point of contention. It is alleged that Sharath handled most of the daily chores, including washing clothes and cleaning utensils, leading to friction between the two.
Their disagreements reportedly intensified over time. During one such dispute, Anusha had returned to her native place and stayed there for some time before being persuaded to return to Bengaluru.
Police have learned that Sharath had brought her back to the city only two days before the fatal incident occurred.
Bengaluru Murder Case Unfolded After Late-Night Argument
Investigators believe a fresh argument erupted shortly after Anusha’s return to Bengaluru. On Saturday night, the dispute allegedly escalated significantly, culminating in a violent confrontation.
Police allege that Sharath strangled Anusha during the argument, resulting in her death inside the rented residence. After the incident, he reportedly remained at the location for an extended period instead of immediately informing authorities.
“The confrontation allegedly turned violent during a late-night dispute, resulting in the young woman’s death,” police sources indicated.
The case came to light only after the accused reportedly approached a lawyer and disclosed details of the incident.
Lawyer Alerted Authorities After Alleged Confession
In a significant development, police said Sharath visited a lawyer on Monday and allegedly admitted to committing the crime. Upon learning about the matter, the lawyer immediately informed law enforcement authorities.
Acting on the information received, police personnel rushed to the residence and conducted a detailed inspection of the scene.
The timely alert enabled investigators to secure evidence and initiate legal proceedings without delay.
“The accused reportedly approached a lawyer and disclosed the incident before police were informed,” sources familiar with the investigation said.
Police Arrest Accused in Malleswaram Murder Investigation
Following the complaint and subsequent inquiry, police arrested Sharath and registered a criminal case. Investigators are currently examining the sequence of events that led to the alleged murder and gathering additional evidence.
Authorities are also verifying statements, digital communications, and other material relevant to the case as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police sources further indicated that Anusha reportedly had no surviving parents and was survived by an elder sister. After the completion of post-mortem formalities, the victim’s body was handed over to her legal family members.
Bengaluru Live-In Relationship Crime Raises Concerns
The case has reignited discussions about relationship-related crimes, domestic disputes, and the importance of early intervention in situations involving recurring conflict. Law enforcement officials continue to investigate all aspects of the incident to establish the full circumstances surrounding the young woman’s death.
With the accused now in custody, police are expected to continue questioning him while collecting forensic and witness evidence to strengthen the prosecution’s case.
