CBI investigation into Twisha Sharma death uncovers serious evidence handling failures and delayed action by Bhopal police

Bhopal: The investigation into the mysterious death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma has taken a dramatic turn after fresh revelations exposed major lapses by the Bhopal police during the early stages of the probe. As the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officially stepped into the case and registered an FIR, shocking details regarding negligence in evidence preservation and delayed crime scene verification have intensified scrutiny over the conduct of the local police.

The CBI’s Special Crime Unit, which arrived in Bhopal from Delhi, has initiated a detailed investigation against Twisha Sharma’s husband, Samarth Singh and mother-in-law, former district judge Giribala Singh. The agency has started collecting digital records, forensic documents, and witness statements linked to the high-profile case that has already drawn nationwide attention.

Bhopal Police Under Scanner Over Missing Suicide Belt Evidence

One of the biggest controversies emerging from the investigation is the failure of the Bhopal police to provide the alleged suicide belt to the medical experts from Delhi AIIMS during the second post-mortem examination. According to sources connected to the investigation, the AIIMS forensic team repeatedly sought access to the belt allegedly used by Twisha Sharma to hang herself, but local police officials failed to produce it.

Police reportedly informed the AIIMS experts that the belt had already been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). However, officials could not immediately provide supporting documentation or physical verification of the evidence, raising serious concerns about chain-of-custody procedures and evidence management in the case.

The latest revelation has further strengthened allegations that critical evidence may not have been preserved properly during the initial investigation phase.

“The inability to immediately produce crucial evidence before the AIIMS forensic team has raised major questions about procedural lapses and investigation integrity.”

Crime Scene Verification Conducted 13 Days After Twisha Sharma’s Death

In another startling development, it has emerged that the police conducted on-site verification of the crime scene nearly 13 days after Twisha Sharma’s death. Investigators reportedly visited the residence of her in-laws in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on Monday and remained there for almost two hours.

During the inspection, police officials seized mobile phones, laptops, and other digital devices believed to contain potentially important evidence related to the case. However, legal experts and observers have questioned why such basic investigative steps were delayed for almost two weeks in a sensitive and high-profile death investigation.

The delayed collection of digital evidence has now become another key issue being examined by the CBI team.

CBI Intensifies Probe Into Twisha Sharma Death Mystery

The CBI formally registered an FIR after mounting public pressure and increasing allegations from the victim’s family regarding dowry harassment and suspected foul play. Twisha Sharma’s parents have accused her husband and in-laws of mentally harassing her and abetting her death.

On the other hand, the in-laws have denied all allegations and claimed that Twisha Sharma was struggling with drug addiction and died by suicide due to personal reasons.

The conflicting narratives have turned the case into one of the most closely watched investigations in Madhya Pradesh in recent months.

Supreme Court Takes Serious Note of Twisha Sharma Case

The matter has also reached the country’s Supreme Court, which has taken serious cognizance of the allegations surrounding the case. A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi assured all parties that the investigation would remain completely independent, impartial, and free from external influence.

The apex court additionally directed both sides to refrain from making public statements or media comments that could potentially affect the ongoing investigation.

Legal observers believe the Supreme Court’s intervention has significantly increased pressure on investigative agencies to ensure transparency and accountability.

Questions Mount Over Initial Police Investigation

The role of the local police has remained under intense scrutiny since the beginning of the investigation. Questions are now being raised over whether crucial forensic evidence was mishandled, ignored, or delayed during the early days following Twisha Sharma’s death.

Investigators are expected to examine forensic records, digital communications, CCTV footage, and witness testimonies in the coming days as the CBI expands its inquiry.

With public attention growing rapidly and multiple agencies now involved, the Twisha Sharma death case is emerging as a major test of investigative accountability and procedural transparency in high-profile criminal investigations.
