Petrol and diesel prices rise for the second time in a week as consumers face a fresh burden across major Indian cities

Bengaluru: Consumers across India woke up to another fuel price shock on Tuesday as state-owned oil companies increased petrol and diesel prices once again, just days after a major hike earlier this week.

Petrol and diesel prices, which were already increased by Rs 3 per litre on May 15, have now gone up by an average of nearly 90 paise per litre across several cities, triggering fresh concern over rising transportation and essential commodity costs.

The latest increase marks the second fuel price hike within a week, intensifying pressure on household budgets and daily commuting expenses.

Petrol Diesel Prices Rise Again Across Major Cities

In Bengaluru, petrol prices increased by 94 paise per litre, taking the rate from Rs 106.17 to Rs 107.16. Diesel prices also rose from Rs 94.10 to Rs 95.03 per litre.

In the national capital, New Delhi, petrol prices climbed from Rs 97.77 to Rs 98.64 per litre, while diesel rates rose from Rs 90.67 to Rs 91.58.

In Mumbai, petrol prices increased by 91 paise to Rs 107.59 per litre, and diesel prices rose to Rs 94.08.

Fuel prices in Kolkata saw one of the sharpest increases, with petrol touching Rs 109.70 per litre after a 96-paise hike, while diesel climbed to Rs 96.07.

  • In Chennai, petrol prices increased to Rs 104.49, and diesel reached Rs 96.11 per litre.

Fuel Price Hike Likely to Increase Transportation Costs

The repeated increase in petrol and diesel prices is expected to directly impact transportation costs across the country.

Transport operators, small traders, daily commuters and businesses dependent on logistics are likely to face higher operating expenses. Experts warn that rising fuel costs may soon lead to an increase in prices of vegetables, groceries and other essential commodities.

Public transport fares, freight charges, taxi services and delivery costs could also rise if fuel prices continue climbing in the coming weeks.

“Continuous fuel price hikes will ultimately affect every household through increased transportation and commodity prices,” market observers noted.

Global Crude Oil Prices Raise Inflation Concerns

Industry experts believe fluctuations in international crude oil prices are continuing to influence domestic fuel pricing trends in India.

With global energy markets remaining volatile, concerns are growing that further petrol and diesel price hikes could contribute to higher inflation and increased financial burden on consumers nationwide.

Motorists in several cities expressed frustration over repeated fuel price revisions and urged authorities to take measures to control rising fuel costs in the interest of common citizens.
