Supreme Court report details actor Darshan’s security, food, interviews and daily lifestyle inside Parappana Agrahara Jail

Bengaluru: Details regarding Kannada actor Darshan’s stay inside Parappana Agrahara Central Jail have surfaced through a report reportedly submitted to the Supreme Court of India, revealing information about his security arrangements, facilities, visitor records, food provisions, and daily routine during imprisonment.

According to the report, Darshan reportedly met family members and legal representatives nearly 70 times between August 2025 and May 2026 after being lodged in jail. The report further stated that he made 73 telephone calls from prison during the same period, as per jail regulations.

Darshan Barracks Equipped With Security and Basic Facilities

The prison report reportedly stated that the actor has been accommodated in a spacious barrack with proper air circulation and lighting facilities. The room has reportedly been equipped with carpets, blankets, bedsheets, stainless steel utensils, cups, bowls, and glasses.

Authorities also stated that mosquito nets were installed on windows and doors, along with ceiling fans for ventilation and comfort. Chadar and blanket arrangements were reportedly made according to court directions.

The report further revealed that strict security arrangements have been deployed around the barracks where Darshan is staying.

“Special security and precautionary measures have been implemented to prevent unauthorised inmate access near the actor’s barrack,” the report reportedly stated.

An assistant jailor and warder are reportedly assigned during daytime security duty, while two head warders monitor the area during nighttime hours.

CCTV cameras installed outside the corridor are also reportedly under continuous monitoring through the prison command centre.

Special Diet and Daily Routine Mentioned in Jail Report

According to prison authorities, Darshan has reportedly been provided with additional nutritious food based on recommendations from jail doctors. The diet reportedly includes eggs, milk, bread, dry fruits, fruits, bakery items, and sweets brought by family members or lawyers during interviews.

The report also mentioned that a chair was arranged for the actor following physiotherapy advice.

As per court directions, facilities such as television, newspapers, monthly magazines, books, and indoor games, including carrom, are reportedly available.

Authorities further detailed the actor’s daily routine, stating that yoga sessions are conducted between 7:30 am and 8:30 am. Darshan is also reportedly permitted daily sunlight exposure and corridor walking during designated hours from 10 am to 1 pm and from 3 pm to 6 pm.

Prison Department Clarifies Facilities Provided Under Jail Rules

The Karnataka prison department reportedly clarified in its submission that all facilities provided to Darshan are in accordance with the Karnataka Prison Services Rules and court directions.

The report additionally mentioned that telephone access, visitor interviews, and personal-use items such as bath soap, washing soap, coconut oil, toothpaste, phenyl, and bleaching powder were provided as per prison regulations.

The revelations regarding Darshan’s prison stay have now sparked fresh public discussion over prison facilities, security arrangements, and treatment provided to high-profile inmates in India.

Background of the Renukaswamy Murder Case

Actor Darshan has been in judicial custody in connection with the high-profile Renukaswamy murder case, which emerged in June 2024 after the body of 33-year-old Renukaswamy from Chitradurga was allegedly recovered from a stormwater drain in Bengaluru. According to the prosecution, Renukaswamy had allegedly sent objectionable and abusive messages to actress Pavithra Gowda, following which he was allegedly abducted, confined and assaulted by the accused persons. Darshan, actress Pavithra Gowda and several others were later arrested in the case during the police investigation.

The case witnessed major legal developments after the Karnataka High Court granted bail to Darshan and some co-accused in 2024. However, the Supreme Court of India later cancelled the bail in August 2025, observing that “no one is above the rule of law” and raising concerns regarding the manner in which bail had been granted. The apex court also reportedly expressed concern over allegations of witness intimidation and prison-related irregularities.

Recently, Darshan again approached the Supreme Court seeking relief on grounds including delay in trial proceedings, prison conditions and lack of basic amenities. However, the Supreme Court declined to grant immediate bail and directed the Karnataka government to ensure speedy trial proceedings by examining at least 60 key witnesses within one year. The court further observed that Darshan could approach the trial court again for bail if there is no substantial progress in the trial within the stipulated period.
