TMC chief alleges Election Commission bias, voter list irregularities, claims assault at Bhabanipur, demands probe after BJP wins 206 seats
Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee has strongly rejected the West Bengal Assembly Election Results 2026, calling the outcome a “murder of democracy” and refusing to step down as Chief Minister despite the All India Trinamool Congress suffering a major defeat.
Addressing a press conference, the 71-year-old leader alleged large-scale irregularities and accused the Election Commission of bias, claiming that the mandate did not reflect the will of the people of West Bengal.
“It was not the people of Bengal who defeated us, but bias and irregularities. More than 100 constituencies have been forcibly taken away. I will not go to Raj Bhavan and resign,” she said.
Her remarks come a day after the Bharatiya Janata Party secured a sweeping victory with 206 seats in the 294-member Assembly.
“I was kicked in the stomach and back at a polling booth. I was treated inhumanely and pushed out of the counting centre. The CCTV cameras were deliberately switched off,” she alleged.
She further claimed that she was denied basic respect and security during the incident.
“Central forces jawans behaved like goondas outside counting centres,” she claimed.
The political standoff is expected to intensify in the coming days as the BJP prepares to form the government while the TMC contests the outcome.
