Sri Rama Sena stages a protest in Hubballi demanding strict verification of passengers arriving from West Bengal
Hubballi: Allegations regarding illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators allegedly entering Karnataka through Hubballi have sparked protests and political outrage in the city, with pro-Hindu organisations demanding strict verification of passengers arriving from West Bengal and stronger monitoring by railway police.
A massive protest was staged outside the Sri Siddharoodha Railway Station on Sunday under the leadership of Pramod Muthalik and members of Sri Rama Sena. Protesters alleged that illegal Bangladeshi immigrants were attempting to enter southern Indian states, including Karnataka, by using fake identification documents.
The protest comes amid heightened political debate surrounding illegal immigration issues following the recent West Bengal elections.
Sri Rama Sena Demands Thorough Investigation
According to protesters, railway police recently questioned several individuals who had arrived from West Bengal and were reportedly travelling towards Bagalkot for labour work. After checking their Aadhaar cards, the passengers were allegedly allowed to proceed.
However, Sri Rama Sena leaders expressed concern that fake Aadhaar cards could be used by illegal infiltrators to avoid detection.
“Verification should not end with checking Aadhaar cards alone. A detailed investigation must be conducted,” protest leaders stated during the demonstration.
The organisation demanded that railway police and local authorities intensify scrutiny of passengers arriving from sensitive regions and maintain constant surveillance at major railway stations.
Hubballi Railway Police Face Criticism Over Passenger Checks
Following the protest, local police and railway police reportedly conducted checks on passengers arriving by the Shalimar Express from West Bengal at Hubballi railway station.
However, officials allegedly faced difficulties carrying out detailed verification because of the large number of passengers arriving at the station.
Sources said hundreds of travellers had reached Hubballi, making it difficult for authorities to individually screen every passenger thoroughly.
Railway officials have not issued any official confirmation regarding the allegations raised by pro-Hindu organisations. However, authorities reportedly stated that the matter would be brought to the attention of senior officials for further instructions.
Illegal Immigration Debate Intensifies After West Bengal Elections
The issue of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants had become a major political topic during the recent West Bengal elections, with allegations and counterclaims dominating campaign discussions.
Now, similar concerns are reportedly being raised in parts of Karnataka, especially in Hubballi, where organisations are demanding stronger verification mechanisms and closer coordination between railway police and local law enforcement agencies.
Police officials have not confirmed whether any illegal Bangladeshi nationals were actually identified in Hubballi so far. Investigations and verification procedures are expected to continue.
