RR Nagar police uncover an alleged pattern of deceit, sexual exploitation, and extortion as the accused posed as an actor and professor to target vulnerable women

Bengaluru: Police have uncovered disturbing details in the ongoing investigation against Haniyuru Chandregowda, who is accused of sexually assaulting multiple women and extorting money by falsely promising marriage. Officials from the Rajarajeshwari Nagar police station revealed that the accused allegedly used fabricated identities, including that of a professor and a television actor, to deceive women, particularly those estranged from their spouses.

Preliminary findings indicate that Chandregowda targeted vulnerable women, gaining their trust through false assurances of marriage before allegedly exploiting them. Police confirmed that the accused is currently in custody and undergoing intensive interrogation to determine the full extent of the alleged crimes.

Investigators stated that the accused presented himself differently to each victim. In some instances, he claimed to be a serial actor, while in others, he introduced himself as a lecturer or professor. In one reported case, he allegedly convinced a 43-year-old woman that he was divorced and intended to marry her, before sexually exploiting her under false pretences.

Police sources further revealed that Chandregowda reportedly recorded private moments with victims and later used the material to blackmail them. In one complaint, a woman alleged that he extorted ₹5 lakh by threatening to release such recordings.

Bengaluru Blackmail Investigation: Digital Evidence Raises Concerns

A forensic examination of the accused’s mobile phone has reportedly uncovered photos and videos of more than 20 women. Authorities believe this could indicate a larger pattern of systematic exploitation and are now working to identify additional victims.

“The digital evidence recovered suggests a pattern of manipulation, coercion, and exploitation. We are expanding the investigation to identify all affected individuals,” a senior police officer said.

The case initially came to light after a woman filed a complaint accusing Chandregowda of sexual assault and blackmail. During subsequent investigation, additional allegations and evidence surfaced, significantly widening the scope of the probe.

Police officials have urged any other potential victims to come forward and assist in the investigation, assuring confidentiality and legal support.
