Dharwad: A shocking late-night assault near the Central Bus Terminal area in Dharwad has triggered concern after a man was allegedly attacked with a broken beer bottle by his own friends following a heated argument.
The injured victim has been identified as 35-year-old Mohammed Rafiq, a resident of Haveripet in Dharwad. According to police sources, the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday near the goods vehicle parking area in front of the CBT.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a quarrel broke out between Mohammed Rafiq and his two friends during a gathering near the parking area. As tensions escalated, the two accused allegedly attacked him using a beer bottle, causing serious injuries to his stomach before fleeing from the scene.
Victim Rode Toward Hospital Despite Serious Injuries
Police said Mohammed Rafiq, despite suffering severe bleeding injuries, managed to get up after the assault and return to his residence in Haveripet.
Sources stated that he wrapped the wound with a cloth, took his motorcycle, and attempted to ride towards Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment.
During the journey, locals reportedly noticed him bleeding heavily and immediately alerted the police. Officers rushed to the spot and shifted the injured man to KIMS Hospital for emergency treatment.
“Initially, it appeared to be a knife attack, but investigation later revealed that the assault was allegedly carried out using a beer bottle,” police sources said.
