Commuters describe "fight for survival" as monsoon rains and peak hour gridlock paralyze city roads leading to Kempegowda International Airport

Bengaluru: A viral social media video highlighting the worsening traffic congestion in Bengaluru has reignited debate over the city’s growing infrastructure and mobility crisis after a young woman claimed it took her nearly three and a half hours to travel from Bellandur to Kempegowda International Airport.

The video, shared on Instagram by a young woman identified as Sakshi, has drawn widespread attention online, with many residents relating to her frustrating experience of navigating Bengaluru’s heavily congested roads during peak hours and monsoon traffic conditions.

According to Sakshi, what was supposed to be a routine airport commute turned into what she described as “the worst airport journey” of her life.

Bellandur to Airport Journey Took 3.5 Hours

In the viral video, Sakshi explained that she left her residence in Bellandur around 6 pm to catch a flight from Kempegowda International Airport. However, severe traffic congestion across multiple stretches reportedly delayed her journey for hours.

She stated that the situation became increasingly stressful as she worried whether she would reach the airport before baggage check-in closed.

“It didn’t feel like a journey, it felt like a fight for survival,” Sakshi said while describing the experience in her viral post.

The young woman also mentioned that she suffered from hunger, exhaustion, and a severe headache during the prolonged commute as vehicles remained stuck in traffic at several locations.

Flight Delay Became Unexpected Relief

Sakshi further revealed that she ultimately managed to board her flight only because the IndiGo flight itself was delayed.

In a sarcastic remark that resonated with many online users, she said the flight delay unexpectedly became a “saviour” amid Bengaluru’s traffic situation.

She also advised travellers heading toward the airport during office hours or monsoon evenings to leave significantly earlier than usual due to unpredictable traffic conditions caused by rain and bottlenecks.

Social Media Users React to Viral Video

The video quickly gained traction online, with several social media users sharing similar experiences of spending hours trapped in Bengaluru traffic.

One user commented that taking three and a half hours to reach the airport was “terrible,” while another joked that delayed flights were now helping passengers more than traffic management systems.

The viral clip has once again brought attention to Bengaluru’s ongoing traffic crisis, particularly in IT corridor areas like Bellandur, Outer Ring Road, and Whitefield, where commuters frequently face long delays during peak hours and rainfall.
