A devastating explosion at a fireworks manufacturing plant in central China has killed at least 21 people and injured 61, triggering a large-scale emergency rescue operation

Beijing: A powerful explosion at a fireworks manufacturing facility in Liuyang, located in central Hunan Province, has left 21 people dead and 61 others injured, according to Chinese state media on Tuesday.

The blast occurred at approximately 4:43 PM on Monday at Liuyang Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Display Co., a fireworks production facility located in Guandu township of Liuyang, officials said.
The explosion triggered panic across the area as thick smoke rose from the plant, prompting authorities to launch a major emergency response.
Massive Rescue Operation Launched
Within minutes of the blast, local emergency authorities activated disaster response protocols.

More than 480 rescue personnel from five emergency teams, along with firefighters, medical teams, and technical specialists, were deployed to the site to carry out rescue operations and search for survivors. Authorities also used rescue robots due to safety concerns near explosive material storage zones.

Injured Shifted to Hospitals
Officials confirmed that all 61 injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment, while rescue teams continued searching the accident site for possible missing persons.

Authorities reportedly evacuated nearby residents and created a safety buffer zone to avoid any secondary explosions, as the site was located close to black powder storage facilities.
Investigation Underway

Chinese authorities have detained the company’s responsible officials as investigators begin a detailed probe into what caused the explosion.
“Search operations are ongoing, and the exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation.”
The incident has once again raised serious concerns over industrial safety, hazardous manufacturing conditions, and firework production regulations in China.
