Belagavi: A shocking case of violence has emerged from Aaladakatti village in Savadatti taluk of Belagavi district, where a son-in-law allegedly stabbed his mother-in-law following a dispute over a video call involving his infant child. The accused, identified as Aravind Gavali, has been arrested after he reportedly posted a disturbing social media status referencing “jail” and “bail” soon after committing the crime.

The victim, Mahadevi (45), is currently battling for life in the ICU at BIMS Hospital in Belagavi, while police have taken the accused into custody and initiated further legal proceedings.

According to a preliminary investigation, Aravind Gavali’s wife had delivered a baby two months ago and was staying at her maternal home in Aaladakatti. Police sources revealed that Aravind frequently made video calls demanding to see the child, often leading to arguments.

Mahadevi, the victim, had reportedly advised him to limit such calls and focus on his work, suggesting that one call per day would suffice. This reportedly angered Aravind, who allegedly began verbally abusing her.

“You can’t stay on the phone all the time. Call once a day,” Mahadevi had advised, according to family sources.

Tensions escalated when Mahadevi warned him against visiting the house amid the ongoing dispute.

Fueled by anger, Aravind allegedly barged into his mother-in-law’s residence and attacked her with a knife before fleeing the scene. The grievously injured Mahadevi was rushed to BIMS Hospital, where she remains under intensive care.

Medical officials confirmed that her condition is critical, and she is being closely monitored.

In a disturbing turn, the accused allegedly posted a WhatsApp status shortly after the attack, stating: “Today in jail, tomorrow on bail… I will not let you go.” The post has triggered outrage among locals and raised concerns over the accused’s mindset.

Acting swiftly, Murugoda police tracked down Aravind Gavali and arrested him. He has since been remanded to judicial custody.

Police officials stated that a detailed investigation is underway to examine all aspects of the case, including allegations of prior harassment.
