Kolkata: Renowned Bengali filmmaker Anik Dutta died under mysterious circumstances on Wednesday after reportedly falling from the terrace of his residential building in South Kolkata, police sources said.


The 64-year-old director, widely known for acclaimed films including Bhooter Bhavishyat and Aparajito, sustained critical injuries in the fall and was rushed to a private hospital in Dhakuria. However, doctors reportedly declared him dead before he could be admitted.


His sudden death has shocked the Bengali film industry and triggered widespread mourning among cinema lovers and members of the entertainment fraternity.

Anik Dutta Fell From Residential Building in South Kolkata

According to preliminary information, the incident took place on Wednesday afternoon at Dutta’s multi-storey residential building located in the Hindustan Park area of South Kolkata.

Residents and locals reportedly rushed to assist after the filmmaker fell from the upper floor of the building.

Emergency teams immediately shifted him to a nearby private hospital in Dhakuria, but medical authorities were unable to save him.
