Back-to-back heartbreaking incidents across Bagalkot, Kalaburagi and Shivamogga expose fragile realities, from lovers’ suicide pact to chariot mishap and river drowning


Bagalkot: In a deeply disturbing series of incidents that have shaken Karnataka, a young couple died by suicide following a minor quarrel, while separate tragic accidents in Kalaburagi and Shivamogga claimed two more lives, raising serious concerns over safety and emotional distress.


The incident reported from the Bagalkot district, two young lovers ended their lives within hours of each other following a trivial dispute. The deceased have been identified as Pavitra (19) and Karthik Nayak (19).


According to police sources, Pavitra allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Banahatti after a quarrel with her partner. Upon learning about her death, Karthik Nayak, who was in Aski village, also took the extreme step, unable to cope with the shock.


The case falls under the jurisdiction of Banahatti Police Station, which has initiated an investigation into the circumstances leading to the tragic deaths.

“Preliminary inquiry suggests a minor dispute triggered the incident. Further investigation is underway,” police sources stated.

Man Crushed Under Chariot Wheel at Temple Fair

In another tragic incident, a 40-year-old man, identified as Vinod Reddy, lost his life after being crushed under the wheels of a chariot during the Sharanabasaveshwara Fair held in Hagargundagi village of Kalaburagi taluk.


The fatal mishap occurred during the procession, and the incident came to light later in the evening. Police from Farhatabad Police Station have registered a case and are probing the circumstances surrounding the accident.


Youth Drowns in Tunga River, Body Recovered After Search

In a separate incident, a 26-year-old youth identified as Akshay drowned in the Tunga River in Shivamogga district. He had reportedly gone swimming and left his belongings, including his mobile phone and clothes, on a nearby rock.


A search operation led by local swimming expert Ishwara Malpe resulted in the recovery of the body. The dead body has been shifted to Thirthahalli Hospital for post-mortem, and a case has been registered at Thirthahalli Police Station.


Rising Concerns Over Mental Health and Public Safety

These back-to-back tragedies underline the urgent need for mental health awareness, conflict resolution mechanisms, and stricter public safety measures across Karnataka. Experts stress that emotional distress, lack of support systems, and unsafe public environments continue to claim lives, demanding immediate attention from authorities.
