Punjab Police arrested three accused and recovered six pistols after exposing an alleged cross-border illegal arms smuggling network linked to Pakistan-based handlers.
Chandigarh: Punjab Police on Tuesday said it has dismantled a cross-border illegal arms smuggling module with the arrest of three persons and the recovery of six pistols during an operation aimed at curbing organised crime networks in the state.
The development was confirmed by Gaurav Yadav, who said preliminary investigation indicated the accused were in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through social media platforms.
Pakistan-Based Contacts Under Scanner
According to police, the arrested men allegedly used online communication channels to coordinate the movement of illegal weapons across the border.
Officials said the suspects were tasked with receiving consignments after smuggling routes were activated and then distributing the firearms to criminal elements operating across Punjab.
“The accused were in touch with Pakistan-based smugglers through social media and facilitated illegal arms supply,” police said.
Six Pistols Recovered
During the crackdown, investigators seized six pistols from the possession of the accused. Authorities are now examining whether the recovered weapons were intended for gang activity, extortion networks, or other criminal use.
Forensic checks and ballistic testing of the seized firearms are expected as part of the investigation.
Network Spread Across Punjab
Police believe the accused were acting as local handlers in a wider supply chain that moved weapons into Punjab and then circulated them among criminals in different districts.
Officials are also probing whether more individuals were involved in financing, transport, or delivery of the consignments.
Further Arrests Possible
Punjab Police said the investigation remains active, and more arrests cannot be ruled out. Digital evidence, mobile devices, and social media communication records are being analysed.
