The case came to light after the couple’s four-year-old son reportedly described the incident to relatives and villagers.
The accused has been identified as Subash Gond, while the deceased woman was identified as Manai Gond.
Fight After Returning From Family Function
According to preliminary police findings, the couple had attended a relative’s wedding ceremony with their children on April 11 and later returned home.
Police said Subash was under the influence of alcohol when he came back. After reaching home, he allegedly began arguing with his wife over suspicions regarding her character. The verbal dispute reportedly escalated into violence.
Investigators said the accused assaulted Manai Gond, causing fatal injuries. She died at the spot, according to officials.
Body Hidden in Septic Tank
After realizing his wife had died, the accused allegedly tried to conceal the crime. Police said he moved the body and dumped it inside the septic tank of the house.
He then allegedly attempted to mislead neighbors and others when they asked where the woman had gone.
“The accused tried to hide the body and deny knowledge, but the child’s statement changed the direction of the case,” local sources said.
4-Year-Old Child Revealed What Happened
The turning point in the investigation came when the couple’s four-year-old son reportedly told relatives that he saw his father beating his mother and throwing her body into a pit.
Villagers, stunned by the child’s account, confronted the accused. Police sources said he initially denied the allegations but later admitted involvement after questioning.
Police Recover Body, Arrest Accused
After receiving information, Nabarangpur police reached the village and recovered the body of Manai Gond from the septic tank.
The accused was taken into custody, and a case has been registered. Police are continuing the investigation and recording statements from witnesses.
Family sources also stated that the deceased woman had consumed alcohol during the time of the incident, though police are yet to issue a detailed forensic report.
Children Left Without Parents
The case has left the family in distress. With the mother dead and the father in custody, the children are now without parental care.
Residents in the village said the incident has deeply affected the community.
