Kozhikode woman traced exhausted in dense Kodagu jungle after massive search; survived on biscuits and water inside abandoned bungalow
Kodagu: In a dramatic and miraculous rescue, a young woman from Kerala who went missing during a trek in the dense forests of Kodagu has been found alive after surviving alone for four days, bringing relief to her family and the authorities involved in the search.
The survivor, identified as Sharanya, a resident of Kozhikode, had set out on April 2 for a trek to Gadiyambadamole hills in Madikeri taluk as part of a group of ten trekkers. During the expedition, she reportedly lost her way and went missing deep inside the forest, triggering a large-scale search operation.
Massive Search Operation Launched
For four days, teams from the forest department, local residents, police, and sniffer dog squads conducted an intensive search across the rugged terrain. Despite challenging conditions, rescue teams continued their efforts relentlessly.
Found Exhausted Near a Stream
Sharanya was finally located around 5 PM yesterday, in an extremely weak and exhausted condition near a stream in the forest area. Local residents first spotted her and immediately alerted the rescue teams, who rushed to the spot and brought her to safety.
“Her survival in such harsh conditions for four days is nothing short of extraordinary,” officials noted during the rescue.
Survived on Minimal Resources
According to Sharanya, she managed to stay alive by consuming biscuits and drinking water she had with her, while taking shelter in an abandoned bungalow inside the forest.
Medical Treatment and Safe Return
After being rescued, she was admitted to a hospital in Virajpet for treatment, where she received medical care for exhaustion. Following recovery, she has been sent back safely to her hometown Kozhikode.
Officials Praise Rescue Efforts
Legal advisor to the Chief Minister, Ponnanna, visited Sharanya and commended the relentless efforts of the rescue teams, acknowledging their coordination and dedication in ensuring her safe return.
