Shillong: A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck Manipur early Tuesday morning, sending tremors across several districts and causing brief panic among residents.
According to officials, the earthquake occurred at 5:59 AM, with the epicentre located in the Kamjong district of Manipur.
Tremors were strongly felt in the nearby Ukhrul district, the state capital Imphal, and even in parts of Meghalaya, indicating the wide reach of the seismic activity.
No Casualties or Major Damage Reported
Authorities confirmed that, as of now, no deaths, injuries, or major property damage have been reported.

Residents in affected areas reportedly rushed out of their homes as buildings shook for a few seconds.
Northeast India Lies in a seismic zone
The northeastern region of India, including Manipur, is in a high-seismic-risk zone, making earthquakes relatively common. Experts have often warned that the region remains vulnerable to moderate and strong tremors due to tectonic activity.
Tuesday’s earthquake once again highlighted the need for preparedness and structural safety in quake-prone states.
People Share Tremor Experience
Several residents posted on social media, saying they felt beds, windows, and walls shake during the early-morning quake. Many were awakened suddenly by the tremors.
Though no serious damage has emerged, fear spread briefly as people stepped outdoors for safety.
Authorities Continue Monitoring
Disaster management teams are expected to continue reviewing reports from districts throughout the day.
Citizens have been advised to stay calm, follow official instructions, and remain alert for possible aftershocks.
