Prime Minister highlights Karnataka’s culture, nutrition and spirituality, calls for a millet-rich diet while inaugurating a temple dedicated to Sri Balagangadharanatha Swamiji

Mandya: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday delivered a power-packed address in Mandya, praising Karnataka’s culture and strongly advocating for traditional foods like ragi mudde, while inaugurating the Sri Guru Bhairavaikya Mandir at Adichunchanagiri Mutt.

Calling ragi mudde more than just food, Modi said it represents “strength and nutrition”, urging youth to adopt millets and traditional grains in their daily diet.

“Ragi mudde is not just food, it is power,” he said, echoing the legacy popularised by H. D. Deve Gowda.

Karnataka Visit ‘A Source of Inspiration’
Expressing his connection with the state, Modi said visiting Mandya district always inspires him.

“Coming to Karnataka gives me new energy every time. Mandya, the land of sugar, makes this visit even more special.”

He described Karnataka’s soil as a unique blend of philosophy and technology, highlighting its contribution to both tradition and modern innovation.

Adichunchanagiri Mutt’s Spiritual and Social Legacy
Praising the role of the Mutt, Modi said Adichunchanagiri Mutt represents India’s enduring spiritual and moral values spanning centuries.

He paid tribute to Balagangadharanatha Swamiji, calling him not just a saint but a “brother of society” who worked extensively for rural upliftment.

Modi credited the seer for driving educational access, especially in engineering and medical fields for underprivileged students, and also highlighted his efforts in environmental conservation, including protection of peacocks.

Temple Inauguration Marks Historic Moment
The newly constructed Sri Guru Bhairavaikya Mandir, built in Dravidian architectural style, stands as a tribute to the late seer’s legacy.

After inaugurating the temple, the Prime Minister offered prayers and described it as:

“Not just a place of worship, but a source of inspiration for future generations.”

The event witnessed the presence of senior leaders, including H. D. Deve Gowda, with whom Modi jointly released religious texts Soundarya Lahari and Shiva Mahimna Stotram.

The function was presided over by Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji.

Focus on Health, Lifestyle and Self-Reliance
During his address, Modi also raised concerns over rising obesity and advised people to:

  1. Reduce cooking oil consumption by 10%
  2. Adopt yoga and healthy eating habits
  3. Promote domestic tourism and cleanliness

He linked government initiatives like Ayushman Bharat with the Mutt’s philosophy of service, emphasizing accessible healthcare for the poor.

Spiritual Hub Witnesses Grand Gathering
The visit turned into a major spiritual and public event, with a festive atmosphere at the Mutt, one of Karnataka’s most prominent religious centres.
