Moving bus en route Huliyaru to Arasikere catches fire in Chikkanayakanahalli taluk, suspected diesel leak triggers blaze, no casualties reported
Tumakuru: A fire broke out in the engine of a moving KSRTC bus near Huliyaru in Chikkanayakanahalli taluk of Tumakuru district on Wednesday, triggering panic among passengers. However, swift action by locals and timely evacuation ensured that no casualties were reported, averting a major disaster.
According to initial reports, the bus was travelling from Huliyaru to Arasikere when the fire suddenly erupted from the engine compartment. The driver and conductor immediately stopped the vehicle and evacuated all passengers to safety.
Passengers Evacuated, Fire Brought Under Control
Eyewitnesses said locals rushed to the spot upon noticing the fire and doused the flames using water, preventing the blaze from spreading further.
“Passengers were taken down immediately after smoke was noticed. The fire was controlled quickly with the help of locals,” sources said.
Diesel Leakage Suspected as Cause
Preliminary findings suggest that the fire may have been triggered due to a diesel leakage in the engine, though an official confirmation is awaited.
The incident occurred within the limits of Huliyaru police station, and authorities are expected to conduct a detailed inspection to ascertain the exact cause.
