Minor assaulted during wedding visit in Jharkhand village, accused booked under IPC and POCSO Act, sent to judicial custody
Manoharpur: A minor girl was allegedly gang raped by two youths in Abhaypur village under Manoharpur police station limits of Jharkhand, where she had gone to attend a wedding function, police said.
The incident occurred late Wednesday night when the girl went towards nearby fields. According to the complaint, the two accused allegedly dragged her and sexually assaulted her.
Villagers Intervene, Accused Handed to Police
The victim managed to escape and informed her family members. Soon after, villagers and family members traced and caught both accused and handed them over to the police.
“An FIR was registered promptly based on the victim’s statement, and both accused were taken into custody,” police said.
Accused Identified, Case Registered Under POCSO
Police identified the accused as Ajit Tirkey (19) of Abhaypur Sarna Tola and Raju Lakra (29) of Kashijoda village. Both are residents of the Manoharpur police station area.
A case has been registered under Sections 65(2), 70(1), and 76 of the IPC, along with Sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act, in Manoharpur Police Station Case No. 19/2026.
Both accused were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
Investigation Underway
Police said further investigation is in progress. The victim is undergoing medical examination and counseling, and officials have assured strict action in accordance with law.
