IMD issues yellow alert for three districts as cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal triggers widespread rainfall across Karnataka
Bengaluru: In a welcome respite from the scorching summer heat, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rainfall across Karnataka for the next four days, including the capital city Bengaluru. The development comes as a relief for residents struggling under rising temperatures in recent days.
According to meteorological reports, a cyclonic circulation formed over the west-central Bay of Bengal, off the south Andhra Pradesh coast, at about 1.5 km above sea level, is influencing the weather. This system is expected to bring cloudy skies and rainfall across South Interior and parts of North Interior Karnataka.
Yellow Alert Issued for Three Districts
The IMD has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for Chikkaballapur, Kolar, and Chamarajanagar districts, warning of heavy rainfall in isolated areas. Meanwhile, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, and Ramanagara are likely to witness rain accompanied by gusty winds, especially during evening or night hours.
Bengaluru Weather Forecast
The Silicon City is expected to experience partly clear skies over the next 24 hours, followed by cloud formation and scattered rainfall later in the day. Temperatures in Bengaluru are likely to hover around a maximum of 34°C and a minimum of 23°C, offering slight relief from the heat.
Rain to Extend to North Karnataka
From April 9 onwards, rainfall activity is expected to spread to North Karnataka districts, including Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag, and Bagalkote, where light to moderate showers are likely. However, coastal Karnataka regions are expected to remain dry, according to the forecast.
Temperature Trends Across the State
In the last 24 hours, Kalaburagi and Raichur recorded the highest temperatures at 38°C. However, some parts of North Interior Karnataka saw temperatures dip by 1.6°C to 3°C below normal, indicating the early impact of changing weather patterns.
Weather Advisory
Authorities have advised residents to stay cautious during sudden showers and gusty winds, especially in districts under alert. Farmers and commuters are also urged to plan activities in accordance with the changing weather conditions.
