3rd Additional Sessions Court convicts accused for brutal crime during birthday meet; co-accused gets 2-year sentence for evidence destruction
Hassan: In a significant judgment, the 3rd Additional Sessions Court in Hassan has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the rape and murder of his girlfriend, delivering justice in a brutal 2018 case that shocked the region.
The convict, identified as Praveen, had lured his girlfriend under the pretext of celebrating his birthday on April 22, 2018. The victim, a young woman from Belur taluk, had trusted him and visited him, unaware of the horrific fate awaiting her.
According to the prosecution, Praveen sexually assaulted the victim and later strangled her to death, committing the crime near Kalkere village in Hassan taluk.
Court Delivers Life Sentence
After a prolonged trial, the court found Praveen guilty and awarded him life imprisonment, stating the gravity of the crime warranted strict punishment.
Co-Accused Punished for Evidence Destruction
The court also sentenced a co-accused, Thammanna, to two years of rigorous imprisonment for his role in destroying evidence related to the case.
Investigation and Chargesheet
Following the incident, Hassan Rural Police registered a case, conducted a detailed investigation, and filed a chargesheet before the court. The evidence presented during the trial played a crucial role in securing the conviction.
“The accused betrayed trust and committed a heinous crime. The punishment reflects the seriousness of the offense,” a legal source said.
