Technical glitch halts Okha–Guwahati Express; panic leads passengers to deboard, youth struck dead while crossing track to reboard train

Etawah: In a tragic railway accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah, a youth lost his life after being hit by another train while attempting to board a halted express. The incident occurred following a technical fault that forced the train to stop, creating panic among passengers.

The Okha–Guwahati Express was travelling on the down line from Etawah towards Kanpur when smoke suddenly started emanating from the wheels of the 13th coach. Alarmed by the smoke, passengers panicked, with many rising from their seats and some stepping out of the train.

Train Halted for Repairs
Railway technical staff were immediately alerted, and the issue was addressed on-site. The train remained halted for around 10 minutes while the smoke was brought under control. During this pause, several passengers deboarded the train amid confusion.

Fatal Attempt to Reboard
As soon as the technical issue was resolved, the train resumed its journey. In the rush to get back on board, a stampede-like situation emerged among passengers trying to re-enter the coaches.

In the chaos, a passenger attempted to cross another track to board the train but was struck by the Sealdah Express coming from Kanpur towards Etawah, leading to his instant death.
“The youth tried to cross the track in haste and was hit before he could react,” officials stated.
Victim Identified, Probe Underway
The deceased has been identified as Dilawar Hussain. Railway police have informed his family and initiated further investigation into the incident.

Authorities have urged passengers to remain inside trains during technical stoppages and follow safety protocols to avoid such tragic outcomes.
